For all of you peanut lovers out there, be aware. Prices for your favorite peanut-based foods are about to skyrocket. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s most recent peanut price report, the cost of this versatile nut is up sharply from last year. The average cost per ton is now at $1,200 compared with last year’s price of around $450.
All of this will mean big price increases on everything from peanut butter, to peanut oil, to peanut snacks in the upcoming weeks. Some experts predict the jump could be as much as 30 to 40 percent.
Luckily, peanut butter has a shelf life of up to one year, so we suggest you make a visit to our peanut butter aisle to stock up on your favorite brand today. If you do, you’ll be eating those PBJs for a lot less than those guys on Wall Street!
